September is National Recovery Month

September is National Recovery Month, where the focus is in in-creasing public awareness surrounding mental health and addiction recovery. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Admin-istration (SAMHSA) will be bringing awareness to National Recovery Month by promoting its “Young Adults in Recovery — Making Small Choices, Every Day” event.

One of the main goals of Recovery Month is to help educate our community about addiction & mental health, so that more people can get the help they need. This month also focuses on recovery practic-es and the need for a strong recovery community and service provid-ers who help people undergoing recovery.

National Recovery Month spreads the positive message that mental health is essential to overall health, prevention treatment works, evi-dence based treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.

This year, SAMHSA is launching initiatives that increase access to prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery services, cele-brate the strong and proud recovery community, and praise the dedi-cation of service providers and community members across the na-tion who help make recovery a possible feat for all Americans.

If you are struggling with addiction or mental health issues, you are not alone. Contact SAMHSA’s National Helpline – 1-800-662 HELP (4357) for information and treatment referral and SAMHSA’s Treat-ment information at http://www.samhsa.gov
